Sir Bobby Robson opens new 3G AstroTurf Pitch at Durham Community Business CollegeSir Bobby Robson opens the new 3G Astroturf Pitch, at Durham Business Community College installed by McArdle Astroturf.

Sir Bobby Robson, opened the new Astroplay 3G full size pitch at Durham Community Business College this month. The college have chosen the same surface as Manchester United Astroplay R55. The pitch has 50/50 weldmesh fencing and a 200lux floodlighting system.

The college received a grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s New Opportunities for PE and Sport programme. Other contributors were, the Football Foundation, Durham Villages Regeneration and Durham County Council.

Sir Bobby was delighted to accept the invitation to open the pitch. He commented on it, saying “this will be a great facility used by the pupils at the college and for the people of the surrounding community.”

Headteacher, Anne Lakey, said, “The Astroplay pitch is a great inclusion to the leisure facilities at the college. It will make a real difference to the health of people within our area. The Astroplay pitch is part of a sports building programme which includes a brand new sports hall and changing room complex. It has been named the ‘Sir Bobby Robson Sports centre’ It means a great deal to us that Sir Bobby has given his name to our facilities and come along in person to open our Centre. Sir Bobby is a real local hero and represents all that is good and decent in sport today. We are proud to be associated with his name.”
