Kenward Sports CentreOfficial Astroturf Pitch Opening at The Ken Ward Sports Centre installed by McArdle Astroturf.

The official opening took place on 22nd September.
 

The facility has been named in honour of a local man Ken Ward, who volunteered much of his time to furthering sport in Hattersley.

Joyce Ward was on hand to unveil a plaque in honour of her late husband.

Also present Lord Pendry, president of the Football Foundation, and Councillor Roy Oldham, leader of Tameside Council, who have given tremendous support to the initiative.

Once the formal proceedings were over local boys and girls held an inter-schools football competition, with Pinfold Primary School boys and Arundale Primary School girls running out eventual winners.

The 2 Astro Turf pitches, have a Astroplay N55 surface with Fencing and foodlighting next to the facility there are changing and shower facilities and ample car parking All the facilitys were funded from Tameside Council, the Football Foundation and Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership.

Hattersley Football Development Officer Andy Basterfield said: "The Ken Ward Sports Centre is set to be a fantastic facility and everyone in Hattersley is very excited about it.

As part of the McArdle Group and established for more than 30 years, McArdle Astroturf’s past acclaimed projects have included high profile systems installed at Manchester United Football Club and the Commonwealth Games, as well as working extensively with schools, colleges and local authorities.
