OFFICIAL ASTROTURF PITCH OPENED AT SALESIAN SCHOOL
21st September 2006 marked the opening of the new Sports facilities at Salesian School Chertsey.
Mr Eric Doherty, Deputy Head, gave a warm welcome to all guests, friends, and staff of Salesian School. He also welcomed Mr David Davis, Chairman of Surrey County Council, Councillor Professor Moreton Moore The Mayor of Runnymede, Fr Michael Winstanley, Provincial of the Salesians in the UK, Councillors from the Sports Development Department Runnymede Borough Council and committee members from Thames Valley Hockey Club (TCHC).
Mr Doherty welcomed also, DHP Weybridge, who managed the project and David Darnell and Joe Mills from McArdle Astroturf.
Mr Doherty went on to speak of the opening as a significant and important event in the life of Salesian School, He also outlined the stages of development of the project,
He spoke of the partnership between the New Opportunities Fund, who provided the principal funding stream, the Sports Development Department of Runnymede, SHP and the governors of the school in bringing this project to fruition.
Young people and adults in both the school and the local community are already benefiting from the new Astroturf facility.
The facility has a new full size Stadia Turf sand dressed pitch with floodlighting and fencing as well a 4 no porous macadam Tennis courts this has been enhanced by extensive car parking.
As part of the McArdle Group and established for more than 30 years, McArdle Astroturf’s past acclaimed projects have included high profile systems installed at Manchester United Football Club and the Commonwealth Games, as well as working extensively with schools, colleges and local authorities.
