Worcester University opens new resurfaced AstroTurf pitchWorcester University held its official opening of the new resurfaced Astroturf Pitch, installed by McArdle Astroturf.

The Astroturf pitch was officially opened by Steve Town, the West Midlands Regional Director of Sport England on Monday (October 2).

The former pitch had begun to show signs of wear, but the new Stadia Turf sand filled pitch will allow over 1,000 people each week to continue using the facility.

Head of Sports and Exercise Science at Worcester, Malcolm Armstrong, said the investment was part of the University’s ongoing commitment to promoting sport, exercise and well being at all levels.

King's School Worcester, Worcester Hockey Club, Kidderminster Harriers Football Club’s Girl’s Development Team and the University’s own sports and community clubs are just some of the teams who will benefit from the new Astroturf resurface.

This official opening highlighted some of the University's latest research work and sports successes and celebrated their positive partnerships in the City.

The new facilities will sit alongside the University’s £3m Sports Centre and Laboratories, which complement the University's highly rated work in Sports and Exercise Science.

As part of the McArdle Group and established for more than 30 years, McArdle Astroturf’s past acclaimed projects have included high profile systems installed at Manchester United Football Club and the Commonwealth Games, as well as working extensively with schools, colleges and local authorities.
